Walter Andrew Brennan was born on July 25, 1894, to Margaret Elizabeth and engineer William John Brennan in Lynn, Massachusetts, United States of America. He was the second child of his parents’ three children, and they were of Irish origin.
The actor pursued engineering at the “Rindge Technical High School” in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He took part in numerous school plays and worked in vaudeville since he enjoyed acting. He worked in a variety of positions after graduating, including a bank clerk.

One of Brennan’s most notable performances was in the 1939 film “The Westerner” where he portrayed Judge Roy Bean, a role that earned him his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. He won two more Oscars for his supporting roles in the films “Kentucky” (1938) and “The Westerner” (1940).
