Born in Manchester, Sophie is best known for he role in Outlander, but she has appeared on a host of TV shows, including DCI Banks, Waterloo Road, Casualty and Doctors.
The star - who turned 29 in March - also won Best Leading Actress for her performance in Outlander at the Hyperdrive Festival Awards in 2016.
Speaking to Square Mile at the beginning of June, she revealed that she 'is a little bit homeless' at the moment.
She said: "I’m flitting around Airbnbs and friends’ couches and hotels.
“All of my belongings are in the car. I’m currently getting changed in my car and I have nowhere to go.”
“I’m trundling along until next week when we go away for press and then I’m gonna deal with life when I get back.”
Sophie is a self-confessed geek, revealing her love for numbers and puzzles, and also confessing that she recently taught herself how to play piano.
She has been very private about her romantic relationships in the past.
Sophie has only been linked to one person in the past, actor and producer Jeff Gum - whom she shares one credit: the 2018 horror Day of the Dead: Bloodline.
The pair went Instagram official in 2019, with the producer posting several photos of Skelton and even sending her birthday wishes.
Since then, the actor has made his Instagram account private and their relationship seems to have ended quietly.
